Last Saturday 12th Of October, the MRFC’s 2nd XV team travelled to Regensburg for its 3rd game in the Regionalliga 2019/2020.
The sun was up and the temperature was perfect for the kick-off at half past two.
A really rough first 20 minutes awaited our boys in blue.
Regensburg succeeded to welcome us with 2 converted tries in the first 20 min.
Nothing to be ashamed of and with a full hour remaining to make a comeback, our determination was still intact and the spirit high. (14 – 0 for Regensburg/Raigering)
It’s not over yet
Determination was strengthened by our first try by Constantin Kuhl after a break through the Regensburg line and an offload from Captain Mariano a couple of minutes after a kick countered by one of our players. Try converted by our number 10 Pascal Frech. With a 14 – 7, our chances to see a close score by the half time was growing.
Hopes not fulfilled by a depressing converted try from Regensburg before the half time. (21 – 7)
Don’t give them more chances
After a solid motivational speech by our coaches James & Sean, our determination paid off.
Mariano Francolino scored a wonderful “team effort” try (converted) (21 – 14).
With quite some painful pick and go (looking at the imposing size of the opposite team) a 3rd try got scored by Yorick unfortunately not converted (unlucky).
With the time almost up and a score of 21 – 19 the last part of the game was more than stressful for both teams.
Regensburg, even though exhausted by our attacks, held their line and did not lose concentration and succeeded to maintain this score until the end was signalled by the referee.
We lost because of handling errors as a result of a quite hectic game, under the pressure of a strong defensive effort by our opponents.
Looking forward to the rematch!
